Many Ways to Give to the Pines
Every gift to The Pines Foundation keeps the place we love: Whyte Hall, the Mobility Cart, our beach, and the various programs that bring us together.
Give today, or plan a gift
that lasts beyond your lifetime!
For the Pines, right now
(cash and online)
Unrestricted gifts give the Pines Foundation the most flexibility to meet the community's needs as they come up.
Give online by card or bank transfer, or mail a check.
Beyond cash
(stocks and securities)
Gifts of appreciated stock are a tax-efficient way to give.
Contact our finance team before you start the transfer. We'll send you brokerage instructions and make sure your gift is credited to you.
From your donor-advised fund
Recommend a grant from your DAF to The Pines Foundation, Inc., EIN 11-3488704.
Please let us know it's coming. DAF sponsors don't always share the donor's name.
Double your gift
Subhead
(matching gifts)
Many employers match charitable gifts. If your employer uses Benevity, search for The Pines Foundation. Otherwise, ask HR for your company's matching form.
Ways to Leave a Legacy
A legacy gift is one of the most meaningful ways to protect the Pines for future generations.
Please tell us about your plans while you're making them. That way we can make sure your gift can be accepted and used exactly as you intend. Some assets, real estate in particular, require board review before the Pines Foundation can accept them.
A gift in your will or trust
(bequest)
Leave a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or what remains after other gifts. Cash and percentage bequests are the simplest for your executor to complete.
(Policy XXV)
Retirement plan beneficiary
Name The Pines Foundation, Inc. as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other plan.
Please send us a copy of your beneficiary designation form.
(Policy XXI)
Life insurance
Name the Foundation as a primary or contingent beneficiary.
Transferring ownership of a policy to the Foundation is a separate kind of gift; talk to us first.
(Policy XIX)
Charitable remainder or lead trust
These trusts can pay income to you or loved ones and support the Foundation. Your own advisor must serve as trustee; the Foundation cannot.
(Policy XXIII)
Your home, with lifetime use
Give your residence while keeping the right to live there for life. This requires board approval and a written agreement reviewed by our counsel.
(Policy XX.F)
Gifts of Property
We're grateful for gifts of real estate, art, business interests, and other property.
These gifts can bring costs and legal responsibilities, so our board reviews each one before we can accept it.
Reaching out early gives us time to do that review well.

How We Accept Gifts
Our gift standards
Your privacy comes first. We keep the details of your gift confidential and honor requests to give anonymously. (II.B–C)
Unrestricted gifts go furthest. You may direct your gift to a specific program if it fits our mission; the board approves restrictions outside the current budget. (III, XII)
We plan for change. Restricted-gift agreements let the board adapt the purpose if the original one no longer serves the community. (III.C, XII.D)
Gifts beyond cash are put in writing. Our counsel reviews these agreements, and the President signs them. (XI)
You determine your deduction. For non-cash gifts, our acknowledgment describes the gift but doesn't state its value. Y ou and your advisor determine that. (XV–XX)
We hold ourselves to professional standards. The Foundation follows the ‘Model Standards of Practice for the Charitable Gift Planner.’ (VI)

FAQs
Will the Foundation accept any gift I leave it?
Cash, securities, and retirement assets are straightforward. Real estate and other property need board approval, so telling us in advance matters. (XX, XXII)
Can I direct my gift to a specific program?
Yes, if the program fits our mission. Unrestricted gifts give us the most flexibility. (III)
Can I give anonymously?
Yes. We'll take reasonable steps to protect your identity. (II.C)
Will my acknowledgment show the value of my gift?
For cash, yes. For stock and property, it describes the gift, and you and your advisor determine the deductible value. (XV–XX)
Who pays for appraisals and legal fees?
Generally the donor. The Foundation pays brokerage fees when it sells donated stock. (X)
Can the Foundation serve as trustee of my charitable trust?
No. Your trustee should be an independent advisor or institution. (XXIII.B)
